Cooking Activities and Learning Opportunities

During the last few months we have learned through collaborative play, hands on learning activities, and by researching topics on chrome books. if you look on the photo page, you will find a number of pictures that show student learning activities through cooking, art, and experimentation. Enjoy!

October's Scientific Inquiry

During the month of October, we will be experiementing with all things Science! We have been testing items in the classroom to determine what materials are attracted to magnets, we have blown up a balloon with carbon dioxide obtained from mixing baking soda and vinegar, and we have experiemented with solids, liquids, and gases. Science is fun! We also took a walk to the upper playground and looked at the Rivermont Path that will provide many opportunities for students to explore the outdoors and nature. Steps are being built that will create a walkway to the top of the hill. Come by and check it out. Have a great October and welcome the cooler weather.

September News

All About Government

I can’t believe that we are through our first month of school already. August has gone by so quickly. During the month of September, we will be talking about government, laws, and voting. We have already begun to discuss the constitution and our rights as American citizens. Look for work to come home regarding this months’ topic and talk to your children about the work they bring home. Thank you for your continued support and remember to check your child’s agenda daily for notes about school activities.

In addition...

Please join me in welcoming Maranda Jeffers to our classroom until fall break. She is a student teacher from UTC and has been a great asset to our classroom. She is learning a great deal in the classroom and plans to lead classroom instruction the next two weeks. She plans on graduating in December. We welcome her to Rivermont and congratulate her on her achievements.

Welcome Back 2016-2017 School Year

Welcome Back Rivermont Families

I just want to take a minute to introduce myself and staff. My name is Sally Brown and this is my 9th year at Rivermont Elementary. Lisa Jones and Sandy Martino are paraprofessionals that work with your students as well. We have worked together for 5 years and have a very cohesive relationship. We will work together collaboratively with each other and all of the Rivermont staff to ensure your student is successful at school. I am excited about working with your children and cant wait to get the year started. The first month of school we will be reviewing school wide procedures, reviewing what was retained last school year, and we will also have an introduction to the olympics. Student work will be sent home at the end of the month. Please review this work with your child and contact me if you have any questions. I may make some anecdotal notes on his/her work to let you know if any support was given to help complete the task. Again...welcome back and if you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me through your child's agenda or you can call the school.

Thank You,

Sally Brown
